A PROJECT CARRIED OUT AT ARDLEY QUARRY IN OXFORDSHIRE FOR THE REMOVAL OF PREHISTORIC DINOSAUR FOOT PRINTS. THE PRINTS REMOVED WERE OF A MEGOLASURAUS, RELATIVE TO THE TRYANASAURUS REX FROM THE JURASSIC PERIOD. MEASURING 2.5M IN HEIGHT & OVER 7 METRES IN LENGTH. OUR PROJECT INVOLVED CUTTING OUT SINGLE FOOTPRINTS & ALSO DOUBLE FOOTPRINTS. THE PRINTS WERE TAKEN OUT IN BLOCKS MEASURING 2.5M SQ X 500MM IN THICKNESS & WEIGHING APPROX 4 TONNES EACH. THE MATERIAL WAS A MUD TYPE STONE HEAVILY COMPACTED.
FIRSTLY A ROCKSAW CUT AROUND THE PERIMETER OF THE PRINTS 2.5 M SQ WAS MADE. AFTER THIS A WIRE SAW WAS PLACED INTO POSITION AND THE SAW SLICED THROUGH THE BOTTOM OF THE SLAB READY FOR REMOVAL OF PRINT THE PRINTS WERE THEN LIFTED OUT AND PLACED ON PALLETS READY FOR REMOVAL FROM SITE. THE PRINTS WERE TAKEN TO OXFORD MUSEUM.
